After an exciting day filled with rapid-fire questions designed to test their knowledge of 10 young-adult books, the Trafalgar team won this year’s Battle of the Books in the Quebec Association of Independent Schools (QAIS) division final.
The Battle of the Books is a book-based trivia contest. Depending on the number of students (up to a maximum of 6 per team) each member reads 1-2 books (or more, if they choose). Girls on the Trafalgar team got ready by going over the format and practice questions, before participating in the QAIS regional semi-finals, then advancing to the finals.
Each competition consists of a regular round, a lightning round, another regular round, and a last lightning round. As staff advisor Ms. Jackson explains, “The questions are challenging: 100 questions are gleaned from each book, so some of them are very detailed.”
Nine QAIS schools took part in this year’s competition, organized by the Quebec School Libraries Association. As the winners in their Division, the Traf team now advances to the “Ultimate Battle,” facing off against the winners from the English Montreal School Board and the Lester B. Pearson School Board on April 17th.
