This Year's Winner

Congratulations Dionne Codrington - Class of 1988!

Dionne Codrington’s work as an award-winning journalist and senior producer of CBC Quebec's Black Changemakers series has created a lasting impact, not only within her immediate community but also across broader regions of Canada. By amplifying voices from often under-served and unheard communities, she has reshaped the media landscape, ensuring that stories of resilience, contribution, and change are not just told but celebrated. Through her leadership, the Black Changemakers series has brought national attention to the stories of everyday heroes, expanding beyond Quebec into the Atlantic provinces, which highlights her dedication to fostering a more inclusive and representative media platform.

The ripple effects of this work are profound. By showcasing diverse narratives and promoting individuals who give back and inspire others, Dionne has helped foster a sense of empowerment and belonging in underrepresented communities. Her commitment to representation can inspire future generations to see their potential, reinforcing the idea that all voices matter, especially those often overlooked. This platform not only educates the wider public but also serves as a critical resource for cultural and social change, encouraging others to become changemakers themselves.

Her accomplishments as a journalist and her role in expanding these important stories illustrate the values of leadership, perseverance, and advocacy—qualities that can deeply resonate with the spirit of Trafalgar School for Girls. Dionne's work stands as a powerful testament to the impact one person can make in elevating marginalized voices, fostering unity, and sparking positive transformation within society.
