The Sec IV Leadership Through Physical Activity Class had an awesome visit to Allez-Up Centre d’Escalade on Tuesday. They challenged themselves and each other to try some difficult routes and very tall walls, and learned a lot of climbing tips from the helpful staff at the climbing gym. Check out the weekly album for a few photos of the outing!
On Friday, May 9th, our secondary 1 and 2 students braved the cold and rain to join the 2025 Student Climate March, this was Trafalgar’s first time participating. Alongside staff and students from schools across Montreal, they marched from St. George’s to Murray Hill Park to call for urgent climate action. We are proud of our students!
The sec. 4 Leadership class went on a bike ride along the Lachine Canal on Tuesday afternoon. After a rainy morning, the afternoon was beautiful and sunny. Highlights included seeing a turtle and a goose! It was a great way to welcome the spring weather.
On Monday, Trafalgar's Battle of the Books team competed in the QAIS tournament! The team, made up of Finley K., Maggie B., Jamie B., Elin K., Rorisang M., Emily P., and Wren S. represented our school's spirit beautifully. They "Crush"ed it in the morning, placing first against three other schools. They were kind and friendly to the other teams and kept cool heads and a healthy sense of humour under some very competitive pressure. Ms. Allison is blown away by their unending support of each other and commitment to this event. She is so proud of each person on the team. In the end, Traf did not place first in the afternoon round, so we will not move on to the inter-board finals, but nonetheless, Ms Allison is so very, very happy with everyone's performance.
This past weekend, our students stepped into the shoes of global leaders and change-makers at JACMUN (John Abbott College Model United Nations). From exploring Quebec's independence as Minister of Transport Geneviève Guilbault to tackling data breaches and cybersecurity as investigative journalist Ronan Farrow and FBI Director Christopher Wray, and even safeguarding cultural heritage in conflict zones as delegates of Russia and Ethiopia—they brought these roles to life. Through a variety of committees, our students immersed themselves in relevant global issues, embraced new perspectives, and honed their skills in critical decision-making, public speaking, and diplomacy. What an incredible experience—well done to all participants!
On Tuesday, Sec I students visited the Biodôme to explore the Boreal forest, St. Lawrence estuary, and Polar regions ecosystems as part of their student-directed inquiry project on marine biology. They observed diverse ecosystems, examined interactions between organisms, and engaged with exhibit facilitators using pre-prepared questions. The morning was filled with exploration and discovery, leaving students with even more questions than they arrived with—something Ms. Loupelle considers the mark of a successful trip!
Our intrepid travellers have returned from their trip to Finland and Estonia with fond memories and lots of chocolate in their luggage. A portion of the 10-day trip was dedicated to exchanging with English and French learners at our host school. The topics discussed included culture, traditions and education. When not in school, our afternoon and evenings were a whirlwind of activities. The students enjoyed an afternoon of ice swimming and sauna followed by a BBQ in a kota (cabin). We also visited a chocolate factory and enjoyed the all-you-can-eat chocolate and candy buffet. Other visits included the Ateneum museum, the fabulous Heureka Science museum, and a visit to Suomenlinna. We also went on a day trip to Tallinn, Estonia. Students also had the opportunity to spend an evening with a family from our host school, Sotungi Lukio, and try local dishes. And of course, we went to see a hockey game. Overall, it was a wonderful experience!
Congratulations to the nine Secomdary 3 students and one Secondary 4 student who participated in Marianopolis College Model United Nations conference this past weekend. From discussing the role of AI in policing to doping in the Olympics or determining who poisoned the Nile (in a fun fictional crisis committee), our delegates had their hands full and their minds captivated. Congratulations for braving Sunday’s snowstorm and making the most of your weekend, Melina B, Sarah C, Sophia F, Eloïse H, Elin K, Rori M, Léla P, Quinn P, Zoë S, Olive V-H!
We’re so happy to share that Benjee, our amazing pet therapy dog, visited us this past week! His presence brought so much comfort and joy, and we can’t wait for his next visit. Thank you, Benjee, for brightening our week!
Five students from Secondary II and IV - Emily P, Lena A, Kara S, Rachel O, and Tatiana R - traveled to WIC this past Monday to attend the Climate Leadership Forum, co-hosted by QAIS and an organization called Learning for a Sustainable Future. The students worked with peers from other QAIS schools to discuss challenges they see in their communities. They then met with their school group and brainsormed projects that could solve their challenges in a positive and sustainable way. The group was given $500 as seed money to develop their ideas. The participating students will meet with their teachers to further their ideas and eventually, launch a Traf-grown project that will make our community more sustainable.
Congratulations to Elin K and Rori M for participating in their very first debate tournament this past Wednesday. The girls attended the LCC Novice Debate Invitational, along with students from a number of other local schools. The Traf duo was one of 20 teams competing across grades 7 through 10. The prepared resolution was: Be it resolved that Canada should become the 51st state. It was an exciting learning opportunity for our students and they received valuable feedback from a variety of judges (coaches and more veteran debaters included). Well done!
On Friday, January 24, Sarah C (Sec. 3), and Rachel O (Sec. 4) participated in a full day McGill Honour Band event at the Schulich School of Music. The Traf students attended masterclasses, saw a performance, and rehearsed and performed a variety of challenging music with 70 students from 19 Montreal-area and Ottawa/Gatineau-area schools. The evening concert featured a collaboration between the McGill Honour Band and the McGill Wind Orchestra. Congratulations on a fantastic
Although it was a cold evening, snow conditions were fantastic on Friday at Ski Bromont. Our next ski night is taking place on Friday February 7th. Students participating should make sure to get the permission form completed for Monday February 3rd.
